Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
Sclerophyllous scrub and Pinus forests, mixed woodland, scree, rocky slopes, cliffs, alpine grasslands and permanent snow.



Key biodiversity
An important site for the endemic Sitta whiteheadi and endemic subspecies such as Accipiter gentilis arrigonii, Buteo buteo arrigonii, Troglodytes troglodytes koenigi and Muscicapa striata tyrrhenica.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are the abandonment of cattle-grazing and the increasing numbers of tourists visiting the area.



Protected areas
National Partial International High1,000 ha of IBA covered by Hunting Reserve (1,000 ha). 3,800 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Haute Vallée d'Asco, 6,800 ha).
