Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in Dong Ujimqin Qi of Xilin Gol League, 200 km from Xilinhot and 30 km from the town of Uliastai, on the eastern edge of the Inner Mongolia Plateau. The typical habitat is grassland, where Otis tarda breeds. Ulgai marshes are located along the Ulgai River in the eastern and southern sections of the grassland, and include riverine marshes, lakes and reservoirs.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: The grassland is important habitat for Procapra gutturosa.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
The IBA includes the provincial-level Hesigechuor Nature Reserve (47,200 ha, established in 2001), and the provincial-level Inner Mongolia Ulgai Wetland Nature Reserve (615,650 ha, established in 2004).
