Site description (2000 baseline)
An area of salt-pans (with fresh water in winter and spring; saline in summer and autumn), largely without vegetation, bordered by agricultural land. Human activities include salt-extraction. The site lies close to Lake Sasko (site 039) and is a transboundary IBA with `Velipoja' in Albania (site AL013).
Key biodiversity
The site is important for breeding and feeding waders, several of which are species of European conservation concern. In summer 1988, 15,000 waders (Charadrii) were counted.
