Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A mountain massif with many high limestone cliffs. The vegetation comprises scrub, grassland and
Quercus and
Abies forests. The main human activities are livestock-farming, hunting and tourism.
This is an important area for cliff-nesting raptors, particularly
Gyps fulvus and
Hieraaetus fasciatus. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Aquila adalberti (non-breeding) and
Falco naumanni (7 breeding pairs).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are disturbance from tourists and recreational activities, and the use of poisoned baits (`Other' threats, above). A management plan is being prepared by the regional government.
