IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2007 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Nuku Hiva Imperial Pigeon Ducula galeata EN resident (2006) 35 birds A1, A2
White-capped Fruit-dove Ptilinopus dupetithouarsii LC resident (-) common A2
Polynesian Swiftlet Aerodramus leucophaeus LC resident (-) common A2
Ultramarine Lorikeet Vini ultramarina CR resident (-) 2,300 birds A1, A2
Iphis Monarch Pomarea iphis CR resident (1998) 500–1,250 pairs A1, A2
Northern Marquesan Reed-warbler Acrocephalus percernis LC resident (-) common A2

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2007. The most recent assessment (2006) is shown below.
