Tysmienica river valley

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2010 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca NT breeding (2009) 3–6 pairs C6
Corncrake Crex crex LC breeding (2004–2009) 200–300 males C1, C6
Little Crake Zapornia parva LC breeding (2009) 30–50 males C6
Common Little Bittern Ixobrychus minutus LC breeding (2004–2009) 10–15 pairs C6
Black Tern Chlidonias niger LC breeding (2004–2009) 60–100 pairs C6
Short-eared Owl Asio flammeus LC breeding (2004–2009) 1–2 pairs C6
A4iii Species group - waterbirds n/a passage (2004–2009) 20,000 birds C4

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2010. The most recent assessment (2010) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2010 moderate very high low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes population medium

State (condition of the trigger species' populations)
Species Actual vs Reference (units) % remaining Result
Ferruginous Duck Aythya nyroca 4 / 2 (pairs) 100 not assessed
Corncrake Crex crex 300 / 50 (males) 100 good
