Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
An exploited peatbog and abandoned system of ponds with scrub, mixed woodland, meadows and reedbeds, and surrounded by agricultural areas. The majority of the area is not utilized by man.



Key biodiversity
The most important breeding site for Circus pygargus in Lithuania. Breeding species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Crex crex (a few calling males).



Protected areas
National High International None3,688 ha of IBA covered by Botanical/Zoological Reserve (Tyruliai, 3,688 ha).
