Site description (2002 baseline)
This IBA comprises the forest to the south and west of Tuyen Lam Lake and also includes Cam Ly, which is situated roughly 10km south west of Da Lat town. Tuyen Lam Lake is a reservoir 4 km south-south west of Da Lat; it is a further 5 km to the distant end of the reservoir. The reservoir is surrounded by pine forest Pinus kesiya, interspersed with extensive cleared areas supporting agricultural plots. At the southern end of the reservoir the pine forest is backed by tropical montane evergreen forest, rising from 1,400 m to 1,700 m.
Key biodiversity
Seven restricted range bird species have been recorded at the site: Germain's Peacock Pheasant Polyplectron germaini, Grey-crowned Crocias Crocias langbianis, Yellow-billed Nuthatch Sitta solangiae, Collared Laughingthrush Garrulax yersini, White-cheeked Laughingthrush Garrulax vassali, Black-hooded Laughingthrush Garrulax milleti and Vietnamese Greenfinch Carduelis monguilloti. With the exception of Germain's Peacock Pheasant, the presence of these species qualifies Tuyen Lam Lake for inclusion within the Da Lat Plateau Endemic Bird Area (EBA). The globally Vulnerable Pale-capped Pigeon Columba punicea also occurs at the site.
Non-bird biodiversity: Yellow-cheeked Crested Gibbon Nomascus gabrielle has been recorded at the site by observation in the field (J. C. Eames, unpublished data).
