Site summary
Dominated by the 1,952 m Olympus peak with its distinctive Black Pine Forest, this is the highest elevation IBA in Cyprus, with a rich community of breeding forest birds including the Cyprus Coal Tit and the Cyprus Short-toed Treecreeper. Calabrian Pine dominates on the lower slopes of this Endemic Bird Area site, which has significant populations of the endemic Cyprus Wheatear and Cyprus Warbler. This IBA is also the only breeding site for the Crossbill on the island.
