Site description (2001 baseline)
The area is located about 420 km southeast of Arkhangelsk, on the eastern coast of the Kanin Peninsula, and covers the watersheds of the Torna and Shoina rivers, with the Shoina river forming the southern boundary of the site.
Key biodiversity
The site is important for migrating waders in spring and autumn. Autumn migration is poorly studied. Many flocks congregate in different parts of the site and total 1000 moulting birds (Bucephala clangula, Aythya marila, Melanita nigra, Melanita fusca).
