Tianping Shan


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Tianping Shan is a branch of the Yuecheng Ling range of the Nanling mountains. Forest cover in the IBA is about 12%.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Important plants include Fokienia hodginsii and Cathaya argyrophylla. Nationally protected animals include Andrias davidianus, Neofelis nebulosa, Macaca thibetana, Macaca mulatta, Manis pentadactyla, Viverra zibetha, Viverricula indica, Cervus unicolor and Moschus berezovskii.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Partially protected in Huaping Nature Reserve, which was established in 1961 and upgraded to a national nature reserve (17,400 ha) in 1978, and the county-level Shoucheng Nature Reserve (75,900 ha), which was established in 1982 and is linked to Huaping in the north.
