Thorne and Hatfield Moors

Site location and context
These two moors, lying to the east and north-east of Doncaster, are the largest remaining areas of lowland peatbog in England. Much peat extraction has already taken place. The IBA is important for Caprimulgus europaeus and a range of breeding waders and wintering raptors.
