Teluk Lenggasana - Pulau Sempu

Site location and context
Located around 50 km south-west of Lumajang, this area consists of Teluk Lenggasana, Bantur and Pulau Sempu (Sempu Island). This area is also known as Lebakharjo.



Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Bos javanica and Trachypithecus auratus (Nijman 1997).



Habitat and land use
The habitat of Teluk Lenggasana (Lenggasana Gulf) consists of lowland forest. Vegetation of Lenggasana Gulf not yet observed in detail. Based on Perhutani report, plant species that characterised primary and secondary forests can be found in this area (Whitten et.al. 1996). Dry crop land (tegalan) and rice field also exist.Pulau Sempu is an attractive small forested island (MacKinnon et.al.1982)



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Cutting forest, wildlife hunting (MacKinnon et.al.1982) and military training ground.



Protected areas
Teluk Lenggasana Nature Reserve (around 16000 ha) and Pulau Sempu Nature Reserve (877 ha), declared based on GB No.46 Stbl. 1928 on 15 May 1928 (MacKinnon et.al 1982).
