Site location and context
This area is located in the coast near Kupang.
This is an important area as a feeding site for migratory shorebirds. Also important for waterbird colonies.
Mangrove, lowland forest, estuary and alluvial ecosystem (Anon 1995b).This area is the only extensive mudflat area in Timor Island (Silvius
et.al.1986).Some of rice field in the edge of mudflats present in this area.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Mangrove cutting for traping fish, wildlife hunting (small scale) on the mudflat (Silvius
et.al.1986).
50000 ha of this area has been declared as Recreation Park based on SK. Menteri Kehutanan No. 18/Kpts-II/1993 on 28 January 1993 (Anon 1998).
