Site location and context
This area is a flat area. The land of Yamdena island is important area for medicinal plants and other forest products and hunting (wild boar, deer and wild buffalo). There are 4 villages in this area and most of the people work as fisherman and farmer. Main comodities are coconut for copra and marine products mainly sea cucumbers and mussels.
The only area where Tanimbar Starling
Aplonis crassa recorded.
Non-bird biodiversity: The endemic flora in this area is Lemuku Dendrobium phaleonopsis (MacKinnon & Artha 1981, Monk et.al.1997). The emdemic fauna of Tanimbar are Troides riedeli, Litoria capitula (Monk et.al.1997). The other important fauna are Python morelia amethistina,Cervus timorensis floresiensis (Petocz et.al.1997).
Moist deciduous forest, dry deciduous forest and a few of semi-evergreen forest at eastern (Monk
et.al.1997). There are five types of wetlands (Wetlands International): estuary, delta, beach, tidal mudflat, mangrove, river.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Logging, land clearence for plantation, collection of orchid and megapode eggs is the potential threat (Monk
et.al.1997).
This area includes:- Nustaram Nature Reserve (2420 ha) based on SK Menteri Pertanian No.609/Kpts/Um/10/1978- Nuswotar Nature Reserve (2052 ha) based on SK Menteri Pertanian No.690/Kpts/Um/10/1978.
