Tangjiahe Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in Guanhu Town, Qingchuan County of Guangyuan City, on the northern edge of the Sichuan Basin, on the north-western side of Longmen Shan and in the southern foothills of the Motian Ling mountains. The IBA is bordered by Baishui Jiang Nature Reserve (CN169) in Wenxian County, Gansu Province to the north and Pingwu County to the west. It is highest in the north-west and lowest in the south-east. The vegetation shows prominent vertical zonation, with evergreen broadleaf forest (below 1,600 m), mixed evergreen and deciduous broadleaf forests and conifers (1,600-2,100 m), mixed broadleaf-coniferous forest (2,100-2,400 m), subalpine coniferous forest (2,400-3,600 m) and alpine scrub and meadows (above 3,600 m).

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected plants include Davidia involucrate, Tetracentron sinense and Cathaya argyrophylla. Animals include Panthera tigris amoyensis, Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Presbytis francoisi, Macaca mulatta, Manis pentadactyla, Viverra zibetha and Viverricula indica.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a nature reserve in 1978 and upgraded to a national nature reserve in 1986 (40,000 ha).
