Site location and context
This area is the biggest freshwater wetland in Nusa Tenggara (Monk
et.al. 1997)
This area is the richest wetland in Nusa Tenggara, around 79% of 53 waterbird species in Sumbawa, live in this area, or around 46% from all waterbirds in Nusa Tenggara (Trainor
et.al.2000)
Taliwang Lake (Danau Taliwang) is very important for the island and it is the only natural lowland lake in the area (Jepson & Monk 1995).Danau Taliwang is a recreation area and also water reservoir (Silvus
et.al. 1986).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Wetlands conversion for rice field and fisheries (Trainor
et.al.2000).
Danau Taliwang is declared as a Recreation Park based on SK. Mentan No. 756/Kpts/Um/10/1982 on 12 October 1982 (1406 ha).
