Site location and context
This area is the biggest freshwater wetland in Nusa Tenggara (Monk et.al. 1997)



Key biodiversity
This area is the richest wetland in Nusa Tenggara, around 79% of 53 waterbird species in Sumbawa, live in this area, or around 46% from all waterbirds in Nusa Tenggara (Trainor et.al.2000)



Habitat and land use
Taliwang Lake (Danau Taliwang) is very important for the island and it is the only natural lowland lake in the area (Jepson & Monk 1995).Danau Taliwang is a recreation area and also water reservoir (Silvus et.al. 1986).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Wetlands conversion for rice field and fisheries (Trainor et.al.2000).



Protected areas
Danau Taliwang is declared as a Recreation Park based on SK. Mentan No. 756/Kpts/Um/10/1982 on 12 October 1982 (1406 ha).
