Tabernas desert


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
An arid depression between the Sierra de los Filabres and the Sierra Alhamilla, with seasonal rivers and cliffs. There is sparse scrub and steppic vegetation and much bare ground. The main human activities are tourism, hunting and film making.



Key biodiversity
This is an important area for steppic birds.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats are from a new road, the use of poison baits, and erosion.



Protected areas
National Partial International Partial11,625 ha of IBA covered by Natural Landscape (Desierto de Tabernas, 11,625 ha). 11,625 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Desierto de Tabernas, 11,625 ha).
