Site summary
SÍňava is a lowland area in the valley of Váh River situated in the Považský Inovec foothills. The area includes the water reservoir SÍňava, surrounding arable land and some temporary forest. The area is used mainly for sport and recreational activities (water sports, sport fishing), water management and hunting. Although almost half the area is protected, nature protection is only partially implemented. It is an important nesting site for water birds and contains one of the highest densities of breeding gulls in Slovakia. It is also an important wintering site and migration stopover site for many species. Birds are threatened mainly by excessive recreational, fishing and hunting activities, as well as egg destruction. The site is proposed as an SPA.
