Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
The site lies to the south-east of the island of Astypalea. The islets are dominated by
Juniperus scrub and phrygana. Human activities include stock-raising, fishing, and arable agriculture.
The area is important for passage migrants and breeding seabirds and raptors. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Larus audouinii (11 breeding pairs).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats include overgrazing, introduced rats and rabbits, abandonment of agriculture, illegal fishing, and hunting. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.

International Partial200 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Vrachonisides Astypalaias kai tria nisia (Mesonisis, Plakidi, Stefania), 2,144 ha).
