Site summary
Suwarrow Atoll is regionally regarded as a safe haven and one of the major breeding sites for seabird species, which consists significant numbers of Red-tailed Tropicbird, Sooty Terns and the Lesser Frigatebird. The Atoll is mostly uninhabited for six months of the year which coincides with the regions cyclone season and is abuzz during the dry months when yachts line up the shore for shelter. Suwarrow was declared a National Park some thirty years ago by the Cook Islands Government and is under the jurisdiction of the National Environment Service.
