Site location and context
A densely forested area at the confluence of the Bug and We³nianka rivers. Forest is dominated by dry-ground species, e.g. hornbeam
Carpinus; riverside forest (alder
Alnus) and coniferous forest (spruce
Picea) cover only a small part of the area. The site is surrounded by meadows on almost all sides.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is the loss of meadows (especially in glades within the forest), due to abandonment of hay harvesting and to afforestation. This is considered to have reduced the number of breeding pairs of
Aquila pomarina in the forest (from 17-20 pairs at the start of the 1990s to 15 pairs currently).
