Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A shallow partially reclaimed fjord area with reedbeds, meadows and agricultural areas.
In 1983, internationally important numbers of six waterbirds visited the site. Currently the site is an important staging area for
Cygnus columbianus and
Anser brachyrhyncus and in some years almost 20,000 individuals of these species have been recorded. Several species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive breed at the site, including
Botaurus stellaris,
Circus aeruginosus and
Chlidonias niger. Breeding bird data from Vest Stadil Fjord are unavailable.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
In 1994 large parts of the site were purchased by the state for restoration.

International High6,910 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Stadil and Veststadil Fjords, 7,184 ha). 6,910 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Stadil and West Stadil Fjords, 6,910 ha).
