Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A coastal site with intertidal mud- and sandflats, shoals, banks, islets and islands, saltmarshes, coastal heathlands and a few cultivated areas. Marine areas surrounding this IBA (and previously included within it, following Grimmett and Jones 1989) are now included in site 119.
The site is a very important staging area for
Calidris alpina. It also holds several breeding species listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive including
Recurvirostra avosetta,
Philomachus pugnax,
Tringa glareola,
Sterna hirundo,
S. paradisaea and
S. albifrons.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Access is prohibited to some parts of the IBA during the breeding season.

, 67,840 ha). 10,000 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (South Læsø and adjacent sea, 66,380 ha).
