Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in the south of Fuerteventura, the site comprises a stretch of sandy beach and a line of sandy, muddy offshore bars. Human activities include sand extraction.



Key biodiversity
The site is very important for breeding Charadrius alexandrinus, and is one of the best sites in the Canaries for wintering and migrating waders, gulls and terns.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Residential and tourism developments pose a threat to the habitat and its birds.



Protected areas
National Partial International Partial370 ha of IBA covered by Natural Park (Jandía, 14,318 ha). 370 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Jandía, 2,754 ha).
