Site summary
This area is comprised primarily of forested karst hills and rocky gorges. The Slovenský raj is penetrated from the west by the forests of Nízke Tatry and by the agricultural land of Hornádska kotlina from the north. The prevailing habitats in this area are coniferous forests, mixed forests, intensively used agricultural land and deciduous forests. The whole site is covered by protected areas. This forested area criss-crossed with gorges is used primarily for tourism and recreational activities. The less attractive forested areas are used for forestry, as well as some grazing and hunting. Due to good nesting conditions, the area is particularly importantforforest birds. Rocky areas are used by the birds of prey (Peregrine Falcon, Eagle Owl). Birds are threatened mainly by intensive forestry and recreational activities. This site is not proposed as an SPA.
