Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A range of hills with Mediterranean scrub, dehesas and a few olive-groves. The main human activities are livestock-grazing and game hunting.



Key biodiversity
Breeding birds include seven of the 20 species in Europe that are restricted to the Mediterranean biome (when breeding).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from two planned dam projects, overgrazing in forest areas, and plantations of non-native trees.



Protected areas
National Partial International Partial67,202 ha of IBA covered by Natural Park (Sierra de Hornachuelos, 67,202 ha). 67,202 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Sierra de Hornachuelos, 67,202 ha).
