Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A mountainous area north-east of Huelva. Dehesas dominate the area. Riverine vegetation occurs along the main streams. The main human activity is livestock-farming.
This is an important area for breeding and dispersing juvenile raptors and
Ciconia nigra. It is also an important passage and wintering site for passerines. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Aquila adalberti (non-breeding) and
Falco naumanni (2-4 breeding pairs).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from high hunting pressure, mining, and uncontrolled tourism.
