Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Shiwan Dashan has a north-east to south-west orientation, running through Shangsi, Fangcheng and Qinzhou counties. The topography within the area is rugged. The climate on the southern slopes is moist and rainy, while on the northern slopes it is hot and dry.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Panthera pardus, Manis pentadactyla, Viverra zibetha, Macaca arctoides and Presbytis francoisi. Important plants include Alsophila spinulosa and Camellia chrysantha.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as the provincial-level Shiwan Dashan Water Resource Conservation Nature Reserve in 1982, and upgraded to a national nature reserve (58,277 ha) in 2003.
