Site location and context
Shaobo Hu is located 15 km north of Yangzhou City. The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal lies to the east of the lake. The western shore of the lake has been straightened by reclamation. Shaobo Hu receives water from channels and then flows into the Yangtze River. The shallow area of the lake is dominated by reeds, and there are extensive agricultural lands in the adjacent areas.
Non-bird biodiversity: No information.
Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
This IBA includes two county-level nature reserves, Hanjiang Shaobo Hu Nature Reserve (1,538 ha, in Yangzhou City, established in 2004) and Jiangdu Shaobo Hu Nature Reserve (2,667 ha, in Jiangdu City, established in 2005).
