Site description (2003 baseline):

Site location and context
This area consists of slopes and flat ridges which are formed by volcanic activity. There is a crater lake in the active mountain of Wae Sano.



Key biodiversity
There are two endemic birds of Flores in this area. Flores Monarch Monarcha sacerdotum and Flores Crow Corvus florensis (Trainor & Lesmana 2000). In 1970s, Yellow-crested Cockatoo was reported abundant, but there is no new record and it is predicted extinct from this area (Schmutz 1977).



Habitat and land use
Dominated by Tropical semi-evergreen forest (Trainor & Lesmana 2000).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Forest clearence for agriculture and timber cutting (Trainor and Lesmana 2000).



Protected areas
This area including Sano Nggoang that is proposed as Sano Lake (Danau Sano-5500 ha) (MacKinnon 1982) and also include Sesok Protection Forest (Trainor & Lesmana 2000).
