Serifos island


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A typical Aegean island covered with phrygana and with a small coastal wetland. The site includes the adjacent rocky islets of Vous, Serfopoula and Piperi. The main human activities are arable agriculture, livestock-farming, fishing, tourism, and hunting.



Key biodiversity
This is an important area for raptors. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Larus audouinii.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from hunting, tourist and infrastructure developments. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National Partial International None200 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Chora-Ag. Kiriaki/Serifos, 200 ha). 800 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Kentarchos-Galini/Serifos, 800 ha).
