Site description (2012 baseline)
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Disputed Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Pacific, Northwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 1960 km2 and is 177 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 2 to 1088 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 25.7 and 26.29 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.16 and 0.23 mg/m3.

1 species triggers IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colony; Senkaku islands include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Great Crested Tern (LC).
