Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
The IBA is a 43-km long and 3-4-km wide tidal fjord with fringing saltmarsh and sand-dunes (135 km of coastline in all). Human settlements, industrial plants and harbours are being developed along the shore and tourist boat traffic is increasing.
The site regularly holds more than 20,000 wintering waterbirds.
National Partial
International High250 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Oehe-Schleimünde, 250 ha). 120 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Reesholm, 120 ha). IBA overlaps with Special Protection Area.
