Sant'Andrea island


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A small island not far off the north-west coast of Puglia, close to the town of Gallipoli, and mainly covered by Salicornia bushes. At present the island is not used by man.



Key biodiversity
The island holds a colony of Larus audouinii.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is the disturbance of breeding birds by tourists. There is a proposal to declare it a nature reserve.
