Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
An island at the northern end of the Gulf of Bothnia.
This is an important site for breeding seabirds.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Surveys undertaken in 1999 show increases in numbers of
Phalacrocorax carbo,
Somateria mollissima and several species of seabird (for example,
Cepphus grylle). This is thought to be as a result of nutrient enrichment in the Gulf of Bothnia leading to increases in fish stocks.
National High
International None2,500 ha of IBA covered by Bird Sanctuary (Skvolpen, 2,500 ha).
