Río Huebra-Arribes del Duero


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A area of granitic cliffs around the River Duero and its tributaries. The site is dominated by Quercus, Cistus and Juniperus scrub. The main human activities are arable agriculture and livestock-farming.



Key biodiversity
This is an important site for cliff-nesting raptors and breeding Ciconia nigra.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from forestry, quarrying and the abandonment of traditional land-uses.



Protected areas
National None International Partial75,000 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Arribes del Duero, 86,000 ha).
