Ría de Arosa (O Grove) estuary


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A small harbour to the south of the Ría de Arosa, with large intertidal mudflats and sandbanks. Human activities include fishing, shellfish collecting and tourism.



Key biodiversity
This is an important wintering and passage site for waterbirds.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats include an industrial waste dump and residential land-use. Tourism and outdoor sports cause disturbance to shorebirds.



Protected areas
National None International High2,420 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Complejo intermareal Umia-Grove, 2,420 ha). 2,420 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Complejo intermareal Umia-O Grove, La Lanzada, Pun, 2,420 ha).
