Site summary
The site boundary is based upon a seaward extension of 75 km around Récifs Bampton et Chesterfield to encompass the foraging range of IBA threshold numbers of Red-footed Booby based upon a 2009 population estimate of 3530 - 3600 breeding pairs, Black Noddy based upon a 2009 population estimate of 20840 - 21500 breeding pairs, Brown Noddy based upon a 2009 population estimate of 21140 - 22800 breeding pairs, Lesser Frigatebird based upon a 2009 population estimate of 515 - 525 breeding pairs, Wedge-tailed Shearwater based upon a 2009 population estimate of 47200 - 63200 breeding pairs, Brown Booby based upon a 2009 population estimate of 1761 - 3751 breeding pairs from Borsa, P., Pandolfi, M, Andrefouet, S. and Bretagnolle, V. (2010) Breeding avifauna of the Chesterfield Islands, Coral Sea; current population sizes, trends, and threats.
