Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A water-storage reservoir which does not freeze in winter, since an associated thermoelectric power-station uses the water as coolant. The water is also used for irrigation.
The reservoir supports large and important numbers of
Phalacrocorax carbo and
P. pygmeus in winter. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Pelecanus crispus (6-17 in winter),
Aythya nyroca (max. 2 in winter).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main problem is illegal and uncontrolled hunting. The reservoir is proposed as a protected area.
