Roskilde Fjord, Selsø and Kattinge Søerne This is an IBA in Danger!

Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A long shallow fjord with islands and islets. Coastal areas have saltmarshes, agricultural land and forested peninsulas. The Fagus/Quercus forest on Bognæs includes areas of old-growth forest.

Key biodiversity
This is a very important site for wintering Cygnus olor, Aythya fuligula, Mergus merganser and Fulica atra. Winter visitors can exceed 20,000 individuals, but numbers fluctuate widely in relation to winter harshness. Circus aeruginosus, Recurvirostra avosetta, Sterna hirundo, S. paradisaea and S. albifrons, listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breed at the site. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (max. 7, wintering).

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
It is possible that the site boundaries should be extended to include Isefjord but further data on bird populations are needed.

Protected areas
National Partial International High13,180 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Roskilde Fjord, Kattinge Vig and Lake, 13,180 ha).
