Site summary
The site covers the outflow from Lake Geneva and part of the River Rhône, which is partly dammed. The river runs through part of the city of Geneva and a steep, forested valley. In the bay of Geneva, water-fringe vegetation has been removed but some reedbeds remain along the river. An important wintering site for waterbirds. The main threat was from disturbance from boats, which has now been greatly restricted.
