Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A shallow, nutrient-rich lake with large areas of reedbed (Phragmites), surrounded by meadows and cultivated land.



Key biodiversity
The site holds more than 20,000 passage waterbirds on a regular basis. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Crex crex (breeding).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
There is a programme of non-intensive land-use. Unchecked vegetation growth is adversely affecting wader breeding habitats.



Protected areas
National High International HighIBA overlaps with Nature Reserve. IBA overlaps with Special Protection Area.
