Recherche Archipelago

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2009 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Cape Barren Goose Cereopsis novaehollandiae LC resident (1993) 612 birds A4i
White-faced Storm-petrel Pelagodroma marina LC resident (-) 9,000–14,000 pairs A4ii
Flesh-footed Shearwater Ardenna carneipes NT resident (1981) 2,300–10,000 pairs A4ii

Red-eared Firetail Stagonopleura oculata LC resident (1998–2008) frequent A2, A3

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2009. The most recent assessment (2008) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2008 not assessed low not assessed
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
