Site description (2004 baseline)
Vast area of mixed extensive farmland, forests and lakes in the central part of the Latgale upland. Forests, mostly mixed and deciduous, cover ca 30% of the site. Numerous lakes also cover a significant area of about 14% of the site. New IBA listed for the first time under the IBA C criteria. Almost fully protected: there is a 99.9% overlap with the newly designated Razna nature park, a candidate SPA. The gap between IBA and pSPA boundaries is due to differences in methods in boundary setting.
