Rauma and Luvia archipelagos

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2000 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Mew Gull Larus canus LC breeding (1995) 1,323 pairs B2
Great Black-backed Gull Larus marinus LC breeding (1995) 90 pairs B3
Arctic Tern Sterna paradisaea LC breeding (1995) 1,430 pairs C2

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2000. The most recent assessment (2010) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2010 moderate low very low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes population poor

State (condition of the trigger species' populations)
Species Actual vs Reference (units) % remaining Result
Great Black-backed Gull Larus marinus 125 / 90 (pairs) 100 good
Arctic Tern Sterna paradisaea 1,100 / 1,400 (pairs) 79 moderate

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Invasive and other problematic species and genes happening now some of population/area (10–49%) no or slight decline (<1% over 3 generations) low

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Some of area covered (10–49%) No management planning has taken place Very little or no conservation action taking place very low
