Qixing He Wetland Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in the northern part of Baoqing County. The nature reserve in on the southern bank of the middle section of the Qixing He river, and extends 30 km from east to west and 10 km from north to south. Habitats include ox-bow lakes, marshes and meadows.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: This area was once in the ranges of Selenarctos thibetanus and Lutra lutra, but these animals are now locally extinct due to unsustainable hunting. Ondatra zibethicus and Nyctereutes procyonoides are still present.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a county-level nature reserve in 1991, upgraded to provincial level in 1998 and to a national nature reserve in 2000.
