Cie Ding Wetland (also known as Jhuhu Salt Pan Wetland) is nationally protected and was declared as a “National Important Wetland (NIW): Wetland of Local Importance” (NIW code TW059) by the Government of Taiwan in 2007. A new Wetland Act was announced in 2013, under which it is expected that Cie Ding Wetland will be protected after 3rd July 2014. Local NGOs proposed in 2009 that Cie Ding Wetland be included in Taijiang National Park, but this was unsuccessful.
