Site location and context
Gunung Api Island is an active volcano which is separated from other islands in Kepulauan Barat Daya. There is no settlement in this area. This island uses as shelter by fisherman.
Although the number of bird is not aviable, but this area is one of the important area for Indonesian seabird breeding site. The bird species that live in this area are Bridled Tern
Sterna anaethetus, Brown Booby
Sula leucogaster, Red-tailed Tropicbird
Phaeton rubricauda, Brown Noddy
Anous stolidus, Great Frigatebird
Fregata minor, Sooty Tern
Sterna fuscata, Red-footed Booby
Sula sula, Masked Booby
Sula dactylatra (de Korte 1991).
From the ridge up to the top of the mountain is dry and the lower part is bushes and secondary vegetation (Monk
et.al.1997).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Secondary vegetation cutting for firewood by fisherman, seabird catching for consumption, indtroduce species (mouse)..
80 ha of this area declare as Gunung Api Kisar Nature Reserve based on GB. 24 Stbl. 157 on 3 December 1937 (Anon 2000)
