Site description (1999 baseline)
This area consists of two islands, Pulau Dua (Dua Island) and Pulau Satu (Satu Island) covering 30 ha. Pulau Satu is located around 600 m from Pulau Dua. Originally Pulau Dua is a coral island (8 ha).This area is located on the south-east of Banten Bay, around 70 km west of Jakarta. Up to the end of 1960s, Pulau Dua ia a seperated island from Java, however betwwen 1970-1978 this island has connected with a land bridge with Java (Allport & Wilson 1984).
Key biodiversity
In 1970s this area is a breeding site for Milky Stork Mycteria cinerea, Glossy Ibis Plegadis falcinellus, and Black-headed Ibis Threskiornis melanocephalus. Based on 1985 census, more than 7500 nests from 11 species of waterbirds live in this area. Waterbirds include Royal Spoonbill Platalea regia, Oriental Darter Anhingia melanogaster, Purple Heron Ardea purpurea, Milky Stork Mycteria cinerea, Black-headed Ibis Threskiornis melanocephalus, and Little Egret Egretta garzetta (Silvius et.al. 1987).
